QUICK PEEK INTO PANDORA-THE WORLD OF AVATAR
Here’s a quick peek with some tips and pictures from Walt Disney Worlds Pandora-The World of Avatar. We were lucky enough to get a preview of Pandora which will be opened on May 27th to the public. The surroundings in the land of Pandora is just stunning. The outdoor structures, gardens, waterfalls, decorations really made us feel like we were in Pandora. It is really beautiful. Please be aware that some of the information in this write up may change by the time Pandora opens to the public.
As most people may know, Pandora is located where Camp Mickey use to be in Animal Kingdom. When you walk into the front entrance of Animal Kingdom you will go straight, then once over the bridge take a left and Pandora will be not to far up on the left side.
2 New Wilderness Explorer Badges:
There is a new Wilderness Explorer book that will be available to include new pages for 2 new badges from Pandora. The new badges will fall on pages 11, 12, and 13. Not to worry if you have completed the soon to be old Explorer book, as the stickers are easy to remove allowing you to place them in the new book.
BOTANY BADGE-which will require you to visit the Flaska Reclinata (read Interactive area below). You will find the troop leader on your right after you have passed the Flaska Reclinata.
ECOLOGY BADGE-here you will have to find the troop leader to learn about the relationships in nature. They will be located closer to the side of Satu’li Canteen within the walking path area
3 Interactive areas:
FLASKA RECLINATA-This huge plant is said to absorb, condense, and purify atomospheric toxins in Pandora. If you rub the rubbery reddish purple area of the plant it will start to germinate. Make sure you take note of what happens when you rub the plant.
DRUMS- Across from Colors of Mo’ara and before you enter Na’vi River Journey on the right are some drums that will increase in sound and rhythm on loud speakers as more people join in to hit the drums. Unfortunately these were not working when we visited. Although a cast member said it sounds pretty amazing when a bunch of people hit them at the same time. There will also be musical performances in that same area. I didn’t think to count the drum surfaces but I want to guess its about 10.
POND CREATURES-Here you will find these really pretty blue squid creatures with shells that will squirt water into the air when they detect movement. So wave those arms in the air like you just don’t care, and you may see the creatures come alive.
ACE Cast member interaction:
If you come across a cast member with a blue shirt and with an ACE logo, ask them how they got to work for ACE (Alpha Centauri Expeditions) or about some Pandora back stories. I don’t want to give away any of the stories we were told as it would be fun for others to interact with the cast members.
AVATAR FLIGHT OF PASSAGE-This ride is by far our favorite ride hands down! It is a mesh between Soarin and Star Tours. If you get queasy easy, you can just close your eyes then open them again, unlike Mission Space Orange ride. You mount individual motorcycle like seats next to one another and wear 3D glasses as you fly on top of your matched Ikran through Pandora. You feel your Ikran breathing on the inside of your legs. Disney did an amazing job with the ride.
Be aware if you have a large waist circumference, you may not be able to experience the ride as it may prevent the locking back mechanism from engaging. As I stated in the beginning this may change by the time it opens. I’m sure Disney will have a way to accommodate individuals that may not be able to ride it.
NA’VI RIVER JOURNEY-This is a short ride on a reed boat that takes you into a bioluminescent rainforest. It’s a mellow relaxing ride through a network of caves surrounded by sounds of a Na’vi Shaman of Songs in the background. All the glowing plants and animals are really pretty, but I personally wouldn’t wait in a very long line to get on this ride.
Food & Drinks:
SATU’LI CANTEEN– The food we ordered was really good. We had lunch but they do serve breakfast until 10:30am. They also have a menu for those with allergies.
PONGU PONGU– is where you can get the tasty Pineapple cream cheese Lumpias, Souvenir Pongu cup with glowing Unadelta Seed, and Frozen beverages. We tried the Mo’ara Margarita which was good. I liked the strawberry boba balls that were in the Margarita. The Night Blossom non alcoholic drink was a bit too sugary for us.
3 Photopass spots:
IN FRONT OF FLASKA RECLINATA– on the right as soon as you go over the bridge in Pandora
NEAR POND OF CREATURES– this is a magical photo spot that will have you pointing to the sky at an Ikran. Make sure your magical photo works. Sadly we are pointing at a storm cloud and no Ikran to be seen….sad face.
THE WALL-nothing special just a wall, but it’s a photopass opportunity nonetheless. This wall can be found as you exit the Windtraders merchandise store.
We really enjoyed all of what we were able to experience in Pandora. The atmosphere, the food, the cast members, and the rides were all wonderful. Our favorite was the ride Avatar Flight of Passage. Remember with anything new, it will be super crowded the first few months. So if you can, get fastpasses, go early in the morning, or wait to visit Pandora when the novelty wears off.
